Horses is the debut studio album by American musician Patti Smith, released on November 10, 1975, through Arista Records. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios and produced by former Velvet Underground member John Cale, the album introduced Smith’s distinctive fusion of rock and poetry—an artistic manifesto that would help define the emerging punk movement. Backed by her band, Smith combined raw musical energy with lyrical intensity, drawing equally from rock tradition and avant-garde experimentation.

The songs on Horses balance minimalist punk aggression with improvisational freedom, reflecting Smith’s literary sensibility and confrontational stage presence.
